Introducing Exclusion Logic as a Deontic Logic

This paper introduces Exclusion Logic a simple modal logic without negation or disjunction. We show that this logic has an efficient decision procedure. We describe how Exclusion Logic can be used as a deontic logic. We compare this deontic logic with Standard Deontic Logic and with more syntactically restricted logics.

A Dynamic Deontic Logic over Synchronous Actions

We present a dynamic deontic logic for specifying and reasoning about complex contracts. The concepts that our contract logic CL captures are drawn from legal contracts, as we consider that these are more general and expressive that what is usually found in computer science (like in software contracts, web services specifications, or communication protocols). CL is intended to be used in specif...

Deontic Logic

The chapter is organized in ten sections, each of them presenting a fundamental issue or problem in the area of deontic logic. Section 10.2 is about the issue of norms and truth, i.e., whether norms should have truth value. It opposes deontic logic viewed as a logic of normative propositions to deontic logic viewed as a logic of imperatives. Section 10.3 deals with the problem of contrary-to-du...

Causal Deontic Logic

In this paper we introduce a descriptive temporal deontic logic based on causal theories. The underlying nonmonotonic temporal logic has two distinctive properties. First, it distinguishes between observations and interventions, which among others is used to distinguish between the existence and creation of deontic states such as obligations, permissions and prohibitions. Second, its explicit c...
